Third Friday Concert Series

The Portland FolkMusic Society has been presenting the finest in folk, acoustic, and World music with the Third Friday Concert series for over 10 years. The concerts are held in the cozy, intimate confines of the Multnomah Friends Meeting House, 4312 SE Stark Street, a comfortable two-story building in a quiet residential neighborhood in Southeast Portland. The Friends Meeting House is a NON-SMOKING building, and seats 120 people in folding chairs and benches, with additional standing room to a maximum capacity of 150.

Shows begin at 7:30 PM, usually with three acts per show. (Occasionally special shows focus on one or two performers.) There is a 30 minute set at 7:30 PM, a 45 minute set at 8:00 PM, then a half hour intermission with refreshments and a chance to meet the performers and purchase their recordings. The evening ends with another 45 minute performance. Audiences are attentive and enthusiastic, and sing along at any opportunity (even with didgeridoo!). No food or beverages are allowed upstairs in the performance hall, so audiences focus exclusively on the music. Performers really enjoy playing for our crowds.

Performers are generally from the Portland area and Pacific Northwest, although we have also featured many nationally known artists, including Bill Staines, Claudia Schmidt, Chuck Pyle, Kate MacLeod, Michael Fracasso, and Michael Johnathon. Featured regional performers have included Misty River Band, Tom Rawson, Heidi Muller, Tracy Spring, Tom May, David Rea, and Portlanders Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer, Kate Power and Steve Einhorn, Three Leg Torso, Samusson and Tomassi, Anne Weiss, Doug Smith, Foghorn String Band, the Dickel Bothers, Little Sue, Jack Straw, Flat Mountain Girls and didgeridoo virtuoso Michael Stirling.
